Amazon Alexa Class Action

A national class action has been commenced in British Columbia against Amazon.com, Inc., Amazon.com Services LLC, and Amazon.com.ca ULC (collectively “Amazon”) on behalf of all Canadian residents with an Alexa user account from when the product was first offered in Canada through July 19, 2023. The lawsuit is only on behalf of Canadian residents.

The Issue: Alleged Improper Collection, Retention and Use of User Data

The lawsuit alleges that Amazon’s Alexa products and services collected significantly more personal information about users than was disclosed, retained that information indefinitely – even after users attempted to delete it, and then used that information for Amazon’s profit to train algorithms, A.I.s and machine learning software.
