TikTok Class Action

A national class action has been commenced in British Columbia against ByteDance Ltd., TikTok Ltd., TikTok Pte. Ltd. and  TikTok Technology Canada Inc. (collectively “TikTok”) on behalf of all Canadian residents with a TikTok account from when the platform was first offered in Canada. The lawsuit is only on behalf of Canadian residents.

The Issue: Alleged Improper Use of User Data

The lawsuit alleges that TikTok improperly used the personal information it collected from users to create profiles of them which it then used to target them with content and advertising tailored to their interests and personal characteristics.
